sorry to hurt your feelings social media, but these all be fake.
As Hurricane Sandy clobbered the the most populated region of the United States, many people took to social media and the Internet to receive and circulate information about what experts called a 100-year storm.
As is typically the case with natural disasters — especially in this digital age — viral photos quickly put a face on the catastrophe. However, it turns out many of the most popular images pinballing around the Internet during the storm were either fake or outdated. Even major media outlets got duped.
Whedon On Romney (by WhedonOnRomney)
alright…well, The Edge titles of the New 52 hasn’t had the best run this first year out but DC is gonna find that sweet spot. the work put in thus far wasn’t a waste—in fact, i’m quite optimistic for The Edge moving forward. and move forward is just what i have in mind! >:]
While I agree that DC doesn’t seem to know what to do with the Edge books, just a note, not all of those are from the Edge line. Mr. Terrific, Captain Atom and Justice League International were all part of the Justice League line, Hawk and Dove was part of Young Justice.
On the Edge side of things, I am getting the feeling that, with a few exceptions such as All-Star Western, DC is trying too hard to push a certain storytelling tone in them, but it’s one that went out of style years ago. Heavy on action, low on plot, low on intelligence. Voodoo looked like it could be interesting and intelligent, exploring a very gray area morally, then they fired Ron Marz and dismantled what he had laid down in order to make the book more generic, which was disappointing. Same deal with Deathstroke and Grifter, which weren’t selling well, I realize, but they thought the solution was to replace the writers with 90’s poster boy Rob Liefeld? You don’t have to make the books testosterone filled 90’s cliches to fit in a darker and edgier side of the universe, though. Recently, due to an interview with Justin Jordan about Team 7 where he mentioned that his Lynch would be more like how he was in Sleeper, I got to thinking how awesome that series was, so went back and re-read it. It’s edgy and dark, but also mature and intelligent, one of the best chessmaster duels you’ll find anywhere, Brubaker and Phillips knocked it out of the park with Sleeper, it was fantastic. And I would love to see DC do more in that tone with the Edge line rather than trying to copy the “Extreme” 90’s.
I disagree about a couple of the predictions you make, but some fun ideas, btw :) I think if DC lets Jordan do his own thing a bit more Team 7 could end up being really cool. But I think your idea of where it will be going is off. I think that it will, at least in broad strokes, follow the same basic plot of the original Team 7; a band of soldiers who are unwittingly being used a human guinea pigs to create super-soldiers. (Obviously, though, not all of the Team 7 members will be affected, since Waller and Trevor do not have any powers, and some it will affect their children, as with Fairchild.) I suspect the mysterious group of people Lynch was talking to in issue 0 contained some shady characters with mad scientist leanings from both Wildstorm and the DCU, Lex Luthor and Henry Bendix both seem prime candidates, and this would be right up their alley. This is the Majestic Project. The one thing I can’t decide is if they are using Majestic as a source of the super-powers they give the Team 7 members, or if he is the end result…. either way, Mr. Majestic WILL be appearing here, I’m sure of it. We could also see the creation of TAO here. Dinah will get her sonic powers and become Black Canary this way, Lynch and Grifter will get their mental abilities, Deathstroke will get augmented and so on. Not sure why you think Bronson and Higgins will turn traitor… I think, assuming they’re not redshirts, they’ll end up becoming existing characters, just that they change their names in the future. whether due to them going into hiding and assuming new identities, or they get their memories wiped or something, I’m not sure, but there is a certain pair of characters who are quite suspiciously lacking an origin of any kind in the DCU so far, but they had a super-soldier background followed by complete memory wipe in Wildstorm… ;)
I dunno about anyone else i follow or who follows me, but I’ve never met anyone who thinks themselves superior because they watched the movie of something. People who think they’re superior because they’ve read the book and only the book and treat fans of the movie the way one would treat dog poop they just stepped into, though? Dime a dozen.
Should we get rid of the Avengers cartoon too? Because how dare kids who are too young to go see the movie *or* read the comics call themselves fans. Clearly, only the most serious of “true fans” who owns every issue of the comic ever printed is worthy of laying eyes upon it. *eye roll*
The elitist attitude expressed in this confession is why I stay well shot of Marvel fans, honestly. :/
It’s not just a Marvel thing. You run across this sort of true fan elitism everywhere… of the fandoms I am a part of, DC has this with fans of the old universe being dismissive of fans of the New 52, Daggerfall/Morrowind/Oblivion fans being dismissive of Skyrim fans, (they used to just hate on Oblivion, but now it’s gotten lumped into the nostalgic ‘Elder Scrolls was better before’ group) all OVER the place in music, band vs band rivalries, or if you are a ‘true’ metalhead or whatever… People like to find ways to convince themselves they’re special for finding something before it was popular, even though that’s bullshit.
To the original confessor, it’s entirely natural to have preferences, it’s ok to prefer the comics to the movie, but don’t pretend your opinion is the only one that’s right. And if someone is a fan of the movie and haven’t read the comics, that sort of attitude certainly isn’t going to encourage them to give them a try, it just reinforces the widely perceived notion of an insular and unfriendly fandom, which can only HURT it in the long run. I for one would love to see more ‘fan girls’ (seriously, why single out the girls?), no matter how they became a fan.

Lance Armstrong’s Cat-And-Mouse Game
The cancer survivor from Texas personally directed a doping program while riding for the U.S. Postal Service and Discovery Channel Cycling teams from 1998 to 2005 when he retired with seven Tour victories, and then again during his return to the sport from 2009-2010.
Armstrong built a complex web of secret bank transactions, motorcycle-riding drug couriers, sophisticated scientific regimens and retaliation against teammates who challenged the code of silence, or “omerta,” about doping, according to the case laid out by U.S. anti-doping officials on Wednesday.
He wasn’t just a user of performance-enhancing drugs. He encouraged, solicited and pressured his teammates to follow suit, according to the U.S. Anti-Drug Agency’s “reasoned decision” regarding Armstrong that totaled more than 1,000 pages of testimony and supporting documents.
Man, this is kinda sad. :-/
Oh Apollo, you’re so awesome. Though I really would have liked to see Midnighter tear the Joker apart…
This is Tayla, she’s from Kentauroi. I was playing Fallout New Vegas and she appeared in some notes I was making for the game, (I must collect all that crap to repair a food processor) and I decided that I’d finally nailed her face with this one. I knew the different elements I wanted with her, but was having a little trouble making them play nice together, and I think this finally achieves that. She was the final main character that was missing a solid design. (though she is does not show up for a little while yet, so it wasn’t a huge emergency) too bad it’s just a doodle on notebook paper. I hate when that happens. Still, I can ink it in Photoshop.
Tayla is captain of the city watch, she’s a hardcore badass, and is a good friend of Galen’s. She is all kinds of awesome, and is one of my personal favorite characters.
As for progress, my writing partner assures me he will have script for me soon, maybe in a week. Though he’s back at school, which put the whole thing on hold this time last year, so…
Yes, my writing is terrible.
Well, it helps a lot that the title has had an…unsavoury history. (Translation: MILLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR)
But the Ellis years are practically essential reading when it comes to superhero books. (Then again, as a general rule, the Ellis anything is essential reading)
Yeah, it definitely had some… less than stellar moments. But I would recommend Ellis and Brubaker’s runs in particular to anyone. (But I, too, am a huge Warren Ellis fan) And luckily, you can skip the bad runs fairly easily without being lost.

You can always start now! DC’s New 52 is still young, and Marvel NOW! is happening this month. (this week in fact)
And there’s always trades! I know the selection is daunting, but a good comic shop will be able to help you out, or if you post on Tumblr, or go to CBR or someplace and ask for recommendations people will point you in the right direction.
Awesome! Good for ComiXology, and hey, free comics!
I just wish they’d accept PayPal, already…
Just to let you know, I will be travelling over the weekend. However, once I’m in one place for a little while, I’m going to be working on the following fixes and features for Missing e:
- Display tracked tags in the sidebar, in addition to the new tag search box
- Fix for the tag reblogging when clicking the reblog button
- Fix a problem with Quick Reblog not showing drop-down for secondary blogs on tag search results page
For anyone following me who is pissed about the tags not being in the sidebar anymore, go get Missing e, they’ll fix it. http://missing-e.com/
And thank you, Missing e, guys :D
busy posting day for me.. I’ll shut up after this.
Just had to say a couple things though.
Though I had sworn off the AvX stuff, I heard that the lated vs was funny so I picked it up. Pointless, but hilarious. I liked Captain America vs Cyclops and Squirrel Girl vs Pixie the best. Basically, the ones that didn’t involve any actual fighting :p
Action Comics - d’awww. this is like the sweetest page ever.
Swamp Thing and Animal Man - holy shit! awesome, shocking stuff. Um. Can’t say much more without spoiling stuff….
Stormwatch… *headdesk* I am crazy for continuing to read this, I know. But I love(d) the characters, and I keep hoping things will improve, and then there’s a glimmer of hope, then it crashes back down… Why does Milligan insist on having Apollo calling out his moves? WHY?? It’s cheesy and stupid. And why can’t they get an artist that can make it through an entire issue? And it’s been a year, can we get Jack to stop chatting with cities for a minute so he can do some parkour? (and his eyes are RED, dammit) Can we get Midnighter kicking someone’s head off, or ripping out a spine already? Ok, yeah, he cut off Skallox’s hand and snapped a guy’s neck, but for Midnighter, that’s nothing… these are the Authority characters, the book has a T+ rating, I want some serious, bloody violence, dammit. After the preview I was looking forward to at least a bar brawl, or if not that, tearing apart some serial killers… instead Midnighter gets one page of punching some random people in the street before getting punched in the face by Etrigan and is down for the count. However, Milligan gets ONE point for mocking the chin spike again, and another for making Apollo and Midnighter not be creepy anymore.
But what I really want is for Justin Jordan to steal Apollo and Midnighter away from Stormwatch and write a duo book with them. Based on Luther Strode, it’s pretty clear he would write an AWESOME Midnighter, he has a good ear for dialogue, he likes Wildstorm, and.. yeah. that’s what I want. Destroy Stormwatch, have the characters go their own separate ways for a while. Jack Hawksmoor, I have decided, shall be a noir detective going from city to city tracking down… um… a guy…. look, this is just off the top of my head, ok? and solving other crimes as he goes along. He’d be our tour guide for the DCU. Apollo and Midnighter just do what Midnighter wanted in the first place, they team up to fight scumbags, trying to make a finer world. Occasionally running afoul superheroes who don’t approve of their methods, and with a heavy dose of their personal lives. They should find a city that’s riddled with crime, but isn’t Gotham, and set up shop. I’ll have to think of what I’d want Angie to do, but I’m sure there’s something. Maybe she could go with Jack. Jenny goes with Apollo and Midnighter. (obviously)

Jupiter tap-dancing Christ, where do I even start?
Like you couldn’t guess there would be Greek gods in a movie about Hercules. And Disney’s Hercules was pretty watered down, imagine her reaction if they had actually been accurate with the mythology!
So apparently when Midnighter is not out punching cats, he is checking out Apollo’s butt.
Well, obviously. Who WOULDN’T? ;)
I was reading an article about Multiversity the other day, (which you should check out, it’s got some Frank Quitely art and sounds pretty cool) and it ended up reminding me how much I miss the Bleed, Shift Ships, all that, and I sincerely hope that the reason DC has not included the Bleed in the new 52, (despite it already being canon in previous continuity, and including most of the Authority characters) is because they promised Grant Morrison he could introduce it in Multiversity.
Hyperspace is no proper substitute for the Bleed, and the Eye is simply not worthy to take the place of the Carrier. The Bleed had this typically Warren Ellis vibe to it, which other writers seem to have trouble with. It was based on real science, but the way it was depicted was poetic and evocative; it inspired a sense of wonder and awe that’s just not there with Hyperspace as it’s being used in Stormwatch right now, where it’s a mere backdrop and means to remain undetected. That sense of wonder, I don’t know why, but other writers just seem to not quite get it. Planetary was ALL ABOUT capturing that sense of wonder, and that’s one of the reasons it’s so cool.
Back to Grant Morrison and Multiversity. I am getting a strong hunch that the Bleed may well feature, for a few reasons. One, the story is all about alternate dimensions, which is all the Bleed was when boiled down to it’s core, the stuff between dimensions, through which Shift Ships such as the Carrier could travel. This makes it a logical place to include the Bleed if DC is planning on ever using it again. Two, in Multiversity communication across dimensions is achieved through the pages of comic books. This seems strange, (it IS Grant Morrison) but the Bleed is named after the bleed area on a comic book page, so it all fits. Three, in his ill-fated run on the Authority, which lasted a whopping 2 issues, they ended up trapped on our Earth, or at least one one very similar to it. Jack and the Doctor end up in a comic shop…
So. Just like in Multiversity, comic books are acting as a means of communication across dimensions. They may be reading about their own adventures, but they are in a different universe. And finally… Grant Morrison says in that article that he’s been working on Multiversity for 6 years. Guess how long ago his Authority run was. Go on, guess. I think his unfinished run on the Authority was the seed of the idea behind Multiversity, basically. It may involve different characters now, maybe even a whole new plot, I really couldn’t say, I am not sure how close they stuck to his plot for the Lost Year, so… But I do think the seed of the idea for Multiversity began there, with the Authority getting stuck outside their dimension when the Carrier’s power source (a baby universe. see? that’s so much cooler than some old Daemonite relic) died. I have my doubts about seeing the REAL Authority again, since there are new versions of many of the characters in the new DCU, but the Bleed is still missing, and I can see no good reason for it’s exclusion, especially since they’ve already had some characters doing some dimension hopping. So I am hoping that the plan all along was to have Morrison introduce the concept in Multiversity.
Paperman Breakdown by John Kahrs — via itsartmag (by sammisays)
Huh, interesting… At first I was like, why not just draw it? but by the end I can kinda understand. the inbetweening of lines on the surface of the model is definitely cool.
I have t know… do these covers wrap around so you can wear them as Halloween masks? cus that would be cool. Also, new Joker is incredibly creepy!
Was reading Happy by Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson and something hit me… Grant Morrison re-used an old panel and got it past the censors this time. The top panel is from The Authority #28, Midnighter shoots Teuton in the back of the head while rescuing Apollo. Bottom is from Happy #1, a hitman gets double crossed.
Now, the Authority #28 is notable for two reasons. 1, this panel in particular got censored, it originally did have a hole exploding through the front of his forehead, just like the Happy panel. It is also the issue that started the long standing feud between Mark Millar and Grant Morrison, because while Millar’s name ended up on the cover, Grant Morrison actually wrote the issue. So I am pretty sure the similarity is intentional.
