btw. can I just say how glad I am that DC fixed his logo. When I saw the logo on the sneak peek, I couldn’t believe they got the crescent moon backwards. I mean, it’s a little detail, but still. So it’s nice that it got fixed by the first real issue. They also toned down the yellow, which is nice.
Midnighter is getting a solo series based not on all those issues of Stormwatch, but because of him appearing as a guest character, an antagonist but now moving into frienemy territory, in Grayson. Where (being Dick’s book and all, so this is to be expected) he’s got a smallish role and is used to prop up Dick in a couple scenes, (and to comment on his flawless ass) so he’s not even at his very best. That’s how bad Stormwatch was. It damaged the characters so bad that it took a guest spot in another character’s book for his character (and costume. I missed you, coat.) to be repaired enough for Midnighter’s awesome to finally bubble to the surface. Which should NEVER have been a question, because he should be all kinds of awesome. Too bad we can’t fix all of them in this way. Apollo can get pulled along by them fixing Midnighter, but the rest… it’s harder.
Though Apollo getting fixed along with Midnighter relies on Midnighter and Apollo being together, which they say they won’t be. I’m still upset about that. They better kiss and make up by the end.

So, one surprising thing and two reassuring things from Stormwatch.
Surprising: “Force” is not a new character at all, it’s Fuji with a different name! :D
Reassuring 1: while disappointed with the alien abduction origin and the fact that they still have real names (and Apollo now has a LAST name too) Apollo is beautiful, and dislikes clothes, as it should be, and he and Midnighter are already together. It was SUCH a relief to see Midnighter in his old costume again. Apollo’s is a bit different, but I am fine with it.
Reassuring 2: while difficult to show with just a couple panels, Starlin NAILED Angie’s personality, she’s awesome again :D
That’s not to say there weren’t things I didn’t like, I’m still very unsure of Jenny Soul, and I don’t like that Hellstrike is no longer sentient gas… but… if that’s what I had to trade for rescuing Angie, Apollo and Midnighter, I’ll take it.

though I can take a good guess based on previous events and solicits. I’m guessing the ‘devolver’ she swallowed a while back continues to mess with her and causes her to lose more and more of her humanity. When the Eye explodes, she absorbs the wreckage into herself, resulting in giant monster Engineer seen here.
I just hope it can all be reversed somehow… The Engineer was awesome.
Zealot has potential, though. In Wildstorm she and Midnighter had an… antagonistic relationship.

He really is! Apollo’s all like totally thinking it’s going to be a nice night out… His first clue should have been that Midnighter takes him to a seedy dive of a bar in a bad part of town instead of someplace nice, the next clue should have been the large bag Mids was carrying over his shoulder… but he remains hopeful! ‘cus he’s just trusting like that. But no. Midnighter’s there to knock out people’s teeth, cus he’s the fucking Midnighter, dammit, the day is not complete until he’s punched at least 6 people in the face. But of course he doesn’t tell Apollo of his little scheme. He’d had better get used to this feeling of aggravation, it will happen frequently.

Just had to say a couple things though.
Though I had sworn off the AvX stuff, I heard that the lated vs was funny so I picked it up. Pointless, but hilarious. I liked Captain America vs Cyclops and Squirrel Girl vs Pixie the best. Basically, the ones that didn’t involve any actual fighting :p

Swamp Thing and Animal Man - holy shit! awesome, shocking stuff. Um. Can’t say much more without spoiling stuff….
Stormwatch… *headdesk* I am crazy for continuing to read this, I know. But I love(d) the characters, and I keep hoping things will improve, and then there’s a glimmer of hope, then it crashes back down… Why does Milligan insist on having Apollo calling out his moves? WHY?? It’s cheesy and stupid. And why can’t they get an artist that can make it through an entire issue? And it’s been a year, can we get Jack to stop chatting with cities for a minute so he can do some parkour? (and his eyes are RED, dammit) Can we get Midnighter kicking someone’s head off, or ripping out a spine already? Ok, yeah, he cut off Skallox’s hand and snapped a guy’s neck, but for Midnighter, that’s nothing… these are the Authority characters, the book has a T+ rating, I want some serious, bloody violence, dammit. After the preview I was looking forward to at least a bar brawl, or if not that, tearing apart some serial killers… instead Midnighter gets one page of punching some random people in the street before getting punched in the face by Etrigan and is down for the count. However, Milligan gets ONE point for mocking the chin spike again, and another for making Apollo and Midnighter not be creepy anymore.
But what I really want is for Justin Jordan to steal Apollo and Midnighter away from Stormwatch and write a duo book with them. Based on Luther Strode, it’s pretty clear he would write an AWESOME Midnighter, he has a good ear for dialogue, he likes Wildstorm, and.. yeah. that’s what I want. Destroy Stormwatch, have the characters go their own separate ways for a while. Jack Hawksmoor, I have decided, shall be a noir detective going from city to city tracking down… um… a guy…. look, this is just off the top of my head, ok? and solving other crimes as he goes along. He’d be our tour guide for the DCU. Apollo and Midnighter just do what Midnighter wanted in the first place, they team up to fight scumbags, trying to make a finer world. Occasionally running afoul superheroes who don’t approve of their methods, and with a heavy dose of their personal lives. They should find a city that’s riddled with crime, but isn’t Gotham, and set up shop. I’ll have to think of what I’d want Angie to do, but I’m sure there’s something. Maybe she could go with Jack. Jenny goes with Apollo and Midnighter. (obviously)
