Skyrim Remastered essential mods

Was looking through my mods on Skyrim and got to thinking about mods that are going to kinda kill it for me if they do not make the transfer over to the Remastered Edition in October. I play with a LOT of mods, but I narrowed it down to these essentials that I simply need to have in the Remastered edition, or something that preforms the same functions.

Absolute Musts:

Would really like to have, but can live without:

And if i want to be able to play my character Aleddor, i will need Better Vampires and the Snow Elf playable race. His adventures are done, but it WAS a very fun playthrough, which i wouldn’t mind having another go at after i am done with my Illusion Mage, which i was partway through the game with and plan on restarting once the remaster hits.

There are also some texture mods that I use, but I am GUESSING the remaster will make those obsolete, similar to how Climates of Tamriel and Enhanced Lights and FX may be obsolete. I may also want to be using my usual ENB, but I am assuming that will be less of an issue than mods.

I learned that Terraria had added achievements on Steam, so went in to collect some of them and loaded up my old world, with my Death Pit. I love this thing. It’s the coolest thing I built in Terraria. I know some other people have built cooler, and I know it’s not much to look at, but it works really well, and has a lot of fancy wiring and stuff going on.

Replaying Fallout 3 and will move on to New Vegas after that, in anticipation of Fallout 4. I just kinda liked that screenshot. I am doing a high intelligence/charisma stealthy sniper type that likes to avoid close combat when possible by either taking things out at range or talking his way out of situations when possible. Going well so far. I’m also attempting to not twink my character by rushing to Anchorage immediately for the Power Armor training and Gauss Rifle, even though I i know it’s waiting there, being all awesome. Roleplaying, doing things naturally.  My main intent was to do the Replicated Man quest in 3, since i KNOW that connects to Fallout 4. But turns out there are eastereggs that reference Boston and the year 2015 in there as well, in some incidental dialogue. Damn, Bethesda, that’s some crazy planning ahead.

Definitely some things I want to see improved upon in 4. Luckily, I know already that most of the things i would want changed ARE being changed, so that’s good. But still enjoyable enough, though I have added some mods to enhance the visuals, add weather, weapon repair kits and mods, stuff like that.

I also got the updated Shadowplay thing working so maybe soon I will have some video clips to share. I could always record from it, but the whole retroactive ‘that was awesome!’ capture with Shadowplay’s static times before made for awkward clips, they often had too much stuff before the awesome moment i wanted to share, or if i set it shorter i may miss some… but now you can trim them to length with Shadowplay (or whatever it’s called now) itself, and upload to Youtube, all in-game. it’s pretty awesome, really, a few quibbles aside. Like, i did this as a test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCL8SdpgHyU and you can see that in Fallout 3, it boots you back to the desktop when attempting to bring up the share overlay. It works fine in Marvel Heroes and Skyrim, though. But it does still function, and it’s still technically in beta, so hey.

Also discovered as i was trying to get that to work that my Fallout 3 and New Vegas games were in a weird state of install limbo. Steam and other programs did not recognize them as installed, (except the Honest Hearts DLC. Steam said THAT was installed, just not the base game.) which caused all sorts of weirdness with Shadowplay… yet, I could PLAY them just fine by launching with the FOSE launcher. I never even realized Steam didn’t list them as installed because I use FOSE by default anyway. So i had to install them again after backing up the game directory, then just replacing the new directory with the old one to get all my mods back, and it worked, and the new Shadowplay began working again. Very weird, must have been some dll somewhere that didn’t make the transition to Windows 10 somewhere along the line.

eh, hell with it, here is a Shadowplay capture from before, of a cool Mysterious Stranger kill, but you have to sit through like 5 minutes of my slow and  methodical playstyle first, since it won’t trim videos that you captured before the update. also, there is a hiss, I have Tinnitus, and use white noise to help mask it, so… that’s what that is. I will be setting up an aquarium on my desk here soon which will fill that function so you won’t have to listen to that in the future:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cgakypt0GCQ

I actually got a better Mysterious Stranger assist yesterday, he took out like 3 raiders, but that was when Shadowplay was misbehaving due too my wonky Fallout install, so i never got it captured. I’d never taken the Mysterious Stranger perk  before for some reason, it’s awesome, even though it comes up infrequently.

Really, Moira? You’re out here for two seconds and already complaining? After i gave you my only Railway Rifle? Serves you right for sending me to Minefield to get shot at by a crazy sniper while surrounded by mines. Or the time with the robots. or that time with the mirelurks. I threw a grenade at MYSELF for you, Moira.

Lookit this mod! Look at it! Ok, it looks a bit glitchy, but still… I am so downloading this shit and playing as Loki. I’m gonna have 4 of the spells set to fixed forms, I’m thinking fox, horse, giant, and…. i dunno… wolf? fish? spider? an the 5th, that will be the fun one. I will use it to infiltrate enemy factions by disguising myself as them, then wreaking havoc with illusion magic. I may post my playtime on Twitch.

Hot Pepper Gaming

Hot Pepper Gaming:

These reviews amuse me entirely too much. Basically, they have people eat a Habanero pepper covered in hot sauce, then have them review a game, the results are amusing.

Attack on Gaben (by Stiff Upper Joystick)

Get ready, Steam sale starts on the 27th. (also, I think a certain indie dev is likely not participating, but not of their own choosing)

I’m looking to get the Bioshock Infinite Season’s Pass, Batman: Arkham Origins, and The Wolf Among Us as my top picks, personally.

I was expecting a new controller from Valve today, but I wasn’t expecting one quite like this! First reaction was that I wasn’t quite sure how you were supposed to use it, but reading the page cleared that up, and I like a lot of things about it. The touchpad is great to support mouse based games (though my first thought would have been a trackball) more buttons than other controllers, the touchscreen is a great idea, it looks cool, looks comfortable. But I do have a few quibbles. The X and Y button placement concerns me. What if you need to hit them while moving? The lack of colors on the ABXY buttons is also problematic. They’ve changed the positions, and until you memorize the new placements, hitting them on short notice (such as during a dreaded QTE) could be problematic… a bit of paint will fix that, to an extent, but the prompts will likely not be color coded to match. While I think the right stick definitely needed replacing to make it truly PC compatible, I am unsure of the need to replace the left stick and I am not sure how well that will work for movement. Will it still allow you to do things like move your thumb a bit and you walk, a bit further and you run? if so, it ought to be fine, but I do worry a bit. Also, while no price was mentioned, it looks expensive to me… I hope to be proven wrong about that.

But, overall, I think it’s much better for PC gaming than a traditional controller. I am a pure PC gamer, I do not own a console, nor do I plan on ever getting one, but my Steam account has hundreds of games. I do like to use controllers sometimes, it helps with my tendonitis, but have always hated how imprecise the left stick is compared to a mouse…

It’s been a long time since i posted screenshots from...

It’s been a long time since i posted screenshots from Skyrim, so i can’t even come close to posting all of my favorites, but… oh well. I finished both the cor game’s main questline and Dawnguard’s main quest, so some cool stuff. I may make a second post for the ones I had to leave out, we’ll see. Completing Dawnguard was especially big with this character because Aleddor is a vampire AND a Snow Elf, so meeting Gelebor was cool for him. th maion quest the highlight was Sovngarde, just because it’s pretty. During this time I also bumped my difficulty up to Master, and that plus the mod ‘Resilient Dragons’ which basically just adds HP to the dragons, the dragon fights are exciting again. So all that was cool, but I’ve had problems of the technical kind…

I love mods, but they can cause problems. Along the way, I had some mods that stuck some bad scripts into my save game, it ballooned to around 40MB. I won’t name the mods because I am not sure if the scripts themselves are at fault or if it was me removing the mods improperly. Either way, the end result was and the game was crashing very frequently, and I was afraid I may have to retire this character because his save games were becoming pretty much unplayable. I tried the tricks of making a ‘clean’ save by waiting in game for 31 days in a quiet place (one of the patches Bethesda added removes inactive scripts from a save after 30 days of in game time) and using the ‘pcb’ (Purge cell buffers) console command, and SKSE’s Clear invalid Registrations function, but to no avail, the scripts kept running and the save just kept growing to ridiculous sizes. Luckily, this tool: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/31675/? came along and was able to fix it. But I lost oh, a good 10 hours or so, because I realized the first time I tried it, I uncovered a bug with this tool which completely broke the Civil War questline (I am in contact with the creator of the tool and they were able to reproduce the issue, so hopefully it will be fixed soon) and I had to revert back to before I had used it and take a more advanced targeted approach using that tool to removing the rogue scripts. Game is stable now.

But then (well, around the same time as this was going on, i guess) I finally caved and installed the Unofficial Skyrim Patch. Big mistake. One of the reasons I had been staying away was because it seemed like whenever Bethesda released a patch of their own, if you had the USKP, it would break the game because you then had fixes fighting with eachother. But now that Betheda has stopped patching the game… that issue is gone. But another reason was because I find it too all encompassing, fixing things I don’t think need fixing, and it’s all or nothing. But I installed it hoping it may fix the Civil War issue (it didn’t because it wasn’t a regular game bug) Then discovered it messed up the lighting added by Enhanced Lights and FX and it ‘fixed’ the Necromage vampire… well, I hesitate to call it a bug or an exploit, because I’m pretty sure that Bethesda knows about it and chose to leave it in because *it makes sense*. The Necromage perk simply states that any spells used on an undead target will be 25% more effective, if my character IS undead, why shouldn’t self buff spells be stronger? And I have an absolutely absurd weakness to fire and regen debuff in the sunlight because the debuffs are 25% stronger as well, and as both a Snow Elf and a Vampire, both of which have innate weaknesses to fire which stack… it gets pretty nasty when faced with fire, so it balances out. And I had to buy/grind my way to 70 Restoration to get it, and I almost never use Restoration spells aside from Stendarr’s Aura (which I bought from the Dawnguard by using charm spells on them to stop them from attacking me. hee hee!). So to have the patch ‘fix’ that was very annoying, is what I’m saying. (also they ‘fixed’ the physics of giants hitting you so you don’t fly 100 feet in the air, I mean come on, that was hilarious, why take that out when it only ever happens after you’re dead anyway?) It feels like they ran out of actual bugs to fix, so are moving on to rebalancing the game and sucking some of the charm out of the game, and that’s not what I want from it. I want bugs that break the game fixed, that’s it. Superficial things like lighting, balance issues and the like, no. There are other mods that address lighting glitches in a much better way, and there are other mods out there to rebalance the game in various ways if I wanted to rebalance it, I can use one of them. So yeah, when I reverted back to the old save, I ditched the USKP, and went back to a loose assortment of mods to fix the problems that affect me.

And finally! I collected all 15 Daedric Artifacts needed for Oblivion Walker, and the achievement wouldn’t pop. :( Look, screenshot to prove it: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=152993633 and I didn’t use the console for any of them (I dropped the Oghma Infinium after reading it to i could keep it to display in my house.) so.. I’m pissed off. That was one of the reasons I made Aleddor. I would have let the Skull of Corruption and Mehrunes Dagger get destroyed if I had known it wouldn’t pop anyway. I saved Boethia and Namira’s quests to last so i could just do them quick and get the achievement, then reload before doing them. Vampire or not, Namira’s quest is a step too far for me, so I went there after reloading and slaughtered the lot of them.

Realized i had another backlog of Skyrim screenshots. I like the dragon breathing fire one, it’s just unfortunate the snow went all wonky when i turned on the free camera. :-/ Guess i’ll just have to find another cliff to try and recreate the scene with no snow ;) You may notice most of these were taken at night, and that will likely continue because Aleddor is a vampire now. He CAN go out in sunlight, but he’s way more effective at night, so…. the darkness shall be a continuing theme from now on, though hopefully some nice auroras will turn up. It’s also boosted my sneaking to the point where I’m just slitting throats all through dungeons, so there will probably be fewer fight screenshots going in.

I just realized today I have a TON of screenshots from Skyrim over the past little while, and some are pretty cool. Or maybe just pretty. I ran out of space here so you can see more of the ones featuring my character Aleddor, who is quite fun to play so far, at his Elder Stats page.

I ended up being ported all over Skyrim by quests, first I got shunted up near Windhelm by a Companions quest, then while i was there i got punted down to Markarth by Sanguine’s quest, spent some time there then ended up in a jailbreak and made a run back to Whiterun, there i decided to sit down and finish Sanguine’s quest and join the Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, and (temporarily) the Dawnguard, and FINALLY at, like, level 20, see the Greybeards… so I went to the throat of the World and to Riften to murder an old lady, and then back up to Windhelm when the Dark Brotherhood caught up with me (ironically, just after solving a murder case for the town.) and I woke up near Solitude… I still haven’t finished Sanguine’s quest. But I did do Meridia and Sheogorath’s! I should note that I try to avoid fast travel, so getting shunted all over the damn place is extra annoying. It’s been a rather hectic playthrough, but has provided some nice screenshot opportunities.
