This graphic is fabulous. It represents a tiny crash course in rhetoric. Learn these things. Put them on your wall. Whisper them into the breeze. These are THINGS TO KNOW.

Yeesssssssssss.

Interesting

Bookmark this shit and the next time someone begins gobbling nonsense at you on a social network, instead of engaging, point them to this handy chart. Also useful: Thought Catalog’s “How To Have A Rational Conversation" flowchart.

This.

Attack on Gaben (by Stiff Upper Joystick)

Get ready, Steam sale starts on the 27th. (also, I think a certain indie dev is likely not participating, but not of their own choosing)

I’m looking to get the Bioshock Infinite Season’s Pass, Batman: Arkham Origins, and The Wolf Among Us as my top picks, personally.

3 countries that are bailing on climate action | The Center for Investigative Reporting:

ruckawriter:

There is no time.

Being Canadian, this is a source of embarrassment for me. The Conservatives are fucking over the country but good, in terms of both climate and foreign policy (among other things, but those are the big ones) despite them not representing the views of the majority of Canadians. Thankfully though, their approval is currently sitting at just 24% after a series of colossal clusterfucks, so their days are numbered.

12072299:

Possible Fallout 4 teaser audio.

Don’t get too excited as this has not yet been confirmed.

Sounds really legit and gives me goosebumps either way though, haha.

People (like here: http://guardianlv.com/2013/11/fallout-4-trailer-audio-potentially-leaked-reddit-questions-legitimacy/ ) seem to think that the orchestral section is the Fallout 3 opening or trailer music, but it’s not. It’s similar, but this has a distinct strings section, Fallout 3 was all horns (or at least the strings were very minimal). New Vegas had some strings, but still different. But It think that it is different but similar enough to confuse some people is a mark in favor of it’s legitimacy, since assuming it’s real they probably just got Inon Zur to do the music again, hence the similarity. And it is about the right length for a trailer and fits the pattern of previous Fallout trailers.

"It really bothers me that the people of Tamriel sometimes use the terms “Earth” and “Sun”. It’s kinda annoying that Beth didn’t pay enough attention to the fact that Earth is the name of our planet and the sun is the star that our planet orbits, not general names."

http://skyrimconfessions.com

Our sun is named ‘Sol’ (hence the terms ‘solar system’ and ‘solar power’ etc.) not ‘Sun’. Sun is a general term that can apply to any star that has planets orbiting it. ‘Earth’ while it IS the proper name of our planet is also a tricky one because it is most likely called that because it’s made OF earth. You know, like you would say ‘dirt’ or ‘ground’. So yeah, don’t have a problem with this.

"The worst part about running mods (I have over 100 running at a given time) is trying to troubleshoot which one is messing up the game."

http://skyrimconfessions.com

yep. The pain of turning off mods a few at a time to track down the problem one. And it always ends up being a) one of the very last ones you could turn off (start at the bottom of the list, it’s one near the top, start at the top, it’s near the bottom. always.) and b) the stupidest thing screwing up the game, like a mod to add more cheese or something.

Underrated movie soundtracks

Went looking to expand my soundtrack collection today, (It’s best to do creative work to instrumental music, i find, especially if it has a lot of emotion to it, which is precisely what movie and game scores are designed to do) and started by checking out ‘best soundtrack’ lists, and was really disappointed to not see some of my favorites get love. Why no love for Hans Zimmer’s Sherlock Holmes score, or John Powell’s How to Train your Dragon? Those are fantastic scores.

thankfully, TV Tropes came to the rescue for recommendations

"It’s not outwardly apparent that Nightcrawler is that important to the X-Men, but he is. No X-Man..."

“It’s not outwardly apparent that Nightcrawler is that important to the X-Men, but he is. No X-Man represents the comic’s central minority metaphor as accurately as Nightcrawler. He’s a character that can’t hide in a crowd — he’s obviously a mutant. The anti-mutant hysteria tends to hit him first and it hits him hardest. The very first time we see Nightcrawler, he’s being chased by literal villagers with pitchforks — all because of how he looks. While he does wear an image inducer to hide his appearance from time to time, there have been a few stories that point out how wrong it is that he has to wear one. With Nightcrawler, writers have told stories about the dangers of assimilating into the norm instead of celebrating your differences. Bryan Singer even touched upon this in one of the best and must uniquely X-Men scenes in 2003’s “X2: X-Men United.” Nightcrawler asks the shape-shifting and equally blue Mystique why she doesn’t just change her appearance to fit in, to which Mystique replies that mutants shouldn’t have to. Nightcrawler’s mutation allows writers to tell stories they can’t tell with Kitty Pryde, Iceman, or Jean Grey.”

Brett Booth on the importance of Nightcrawler’s return. . (via invisiblelad)

It’s Brett WHITE, not Booth, but still an excellent article.
